Ceramic Relief Portrait Process

Updated: Nov 2, 2019

This is a time-lapse of the process of creating a portrait in relief in clay. The piece is started by making a flat disc about 1" thick on the potters wheel. A simple contour drawing is transferred to the surface and through a process of subtraction and addition of clay, the depth of the piece starts to emerge.
